Dell introduced the 2230 printer in April 2009, with an OEM-rated print speed of 35 pages per minute (ppm) and a duty cycle rating of 35,000 pages per month.

The 2230 ships with a 1,000 page yield starter cartridge and 30,000 page yield drum unit. Replacement toner cartridges are available in 3,500 page yield return and non-return versions that require chips for the printer to function correctly.
